Prepping for a winter Evy!

When I found out I as pregnant, I could not help but start going through my baby knitting books. I found this book "Natural Knits for Babies and Moms" awhile back. It is the same book I used to make my nephew Roman's little sweater vest, which I LOVED how it turned out. So, I saw in there, a chunky soft sweater with a cable in it. I've not tried doing cables yet and was wondering about being able to do it. Also, I've never seamed sleaves before so I had two challenges ahead of me. Let me tell you, now I agree with everyone I heard from...cables are eeeeeasy! If I can do it, well, you get the drift! So, never fear the cables, they are very cool and very easy to do.
Anyway, I had purchased this teal green right after I tested positive on the ol' pee stick since it seemed it would work for either sex. I LOVED working with this yarn, it is a mix of alpaca and silk and put out by Debbie Bliss. So, here's my first real sweater, and my first cable. It even splits at the top since babies really have no neck so it won't get all chunky in there. It should just lay or splay out to the sides.

Now I'm working on a felted Yoda hat (finished) and kimono style Yoda sweater for her to wear to Jordan's work. Jordan says I'm such a good wife for a geek to have! Thank you Theresa from Country Yarns in Snohomish for your unending support with my knitting trials, for convincing me I was capable of doing cables and seaming, and for giving me the phrase "Cute I am!" to go on a baby onsie for Evy to wear under her new Yoda outfit when it's done. I'll post pictures when that's all set, perhaps by the end of July? And no...it's not a Halloween outfit...it's just the way we are and I won't be able to stop laughing at my child she will be so damn cute in that outfit! Hopefully I'll be laughing with...not at her, but she won't know the difference for some time. :)

Ciao everyone, and thanks again for checking in!

One lucky little lady!

Evelena sure is a lucky gal!

Last weekend, Jordan and I drove to Astoria to meet up with my folks, a few uncles and an aunt (my one set of aunt/uncle came all the way from Baltimore!). Over the weekend the girls and I headed off to a baby shower that my mom threw for me at Windsor House of Tea to meet up with the beach gal pals, Jan, Sharon, Carol and my long time friend Vicky. The same day, the guys went on a Sturgeon Derby with about 20 other guys on about five different boats into the Columbia. Jordan was the only one on his boat to catch a sturgeon and it was 49 inches, so one inch too short to be counted legal. They all had a great time though! The derby was such a good idea, thank you Stuart for putting that on, even though you were the only guy to catch a legal fish that day...sounds a bit "fishy" but we'll let you get away with it! The bbq afterwards was fantastic too, thank you and Nancy for hosting that. My uncle Don won an award in the derby...he won the "Yes you do indeed need a fishing license" award (complete with "prize" of rules and regulations for fishing in OR/WA), as he had purchased his license in Portland, but forgot to bring it and had to therefore purchase yet another one in Astoria in order to participate in the event. Jordan won an award too! He won a new urinal for the boat as he lost the boats only one trying to rinse it out. Tidy honey, you'll never live that down with the guys!

Anyway, enough about the guys! This is my blog! :) You have your own! Post pics of the fishes when you get them from Mom and Dad. Mom and Dad? Remember to bring them up with you next time or have them posted to CD for us so we can post them!
But about the baby shower...I just really am lucky and so is little Evy. These gals at the beach have been so kind to me and Jordan. They've driven to our wedding, we've partied with them at the coast and they've just been so welcoming and kind, and super funny! My folks are very lucky to know you all. Just a few weekends ago, Jordan and I were at the coast to do some more fishing and Carol and Jim threw a bbq, but to our surprise, it was a SURPRISE GRANDPARENT BABY SHOWER!!! It was just for my folks for being grandparents!! Isn't that a great idea!!! It was a potluck party, complete with favors that the gals had all made and were supercute. They gave perfect gifts for grandparents-to-be, like books to read to her and sand play kits, clothes, blankets, binkies, and toys. It was super generous and I'm still in shock, as are my folks.
Anyway, these gals were also at the High Tea at Windsor this past weekend and we had such a girly time.

Here are pics of the gifts;

Thank you Mom for the Horse Jumper which just cracks me up and the contoured changing pad and cover!
Thank you Aunt Nan for the baby robe, slippers, bib and changing pad all in pink turtles and thank you for her little bear! You and uncle Art are so cute for picking that out together.
Thank you Carol for making Evy her very own Raggedy Ann and for the infant to toddler rocking chair! I can't believe you went so far as to make Evy her own doll! That was a lot of work!!!
Thank you Vicky for the rain slicker, boots, ducky bath thermometer and safety kit! That rain gear is just too cute, I can NOT wait to get pictures. Also, thank you for the Super Hero Tee that says "Milk Mama! MM I make milk, what's your super-power?" That was awesome!
Thank you Jan for all the scrapbooking gear, the Care Bear, the subscription to Family Fun magazine, and the beautiful box they all came in. I can't wait to have pictures to scrapbook of all the fun she has and trouble she gets into! It's absolutely adorable.
Thank you Joan for the musical rocking baby globe. It is so cute! I wish you could have been there, but am so glad you got time with your kids over father's day weekend!
Thank you Sharon for the light show toy, I've never seen one before and I'm just so entertained with it!! I bet Evelena will be too!
Thank you Nancy for the handmade blanket that says "I love Mommy! I love Daddy" It is sooooo soft! I love fleece and I love these blankets you make. Thank you for making sure we had one! (I was secretly wishing for one!)
Thank you Mindy and Jen for sending along a ducky toy and a ducky outfit for Evy! You were missed at the party as I always enjoy being around you. Can't wait to see you again when we have our little girl to show off! It was very kind of you to send these things to her!
Thank you Christa for her nursing pillow, this will be more handy than I can even imagine at this point! We missed you there on Saturday but it was great to see you at the Sunday Market in Astoria!!
Of course there were more trinkets than I've shown here, but there was just so much generosity I just can hardly get my head around it.

Okay Okay, I can bet some of you are wondering about a recent picture of the ol' bump? hehe...Here you go Dixee! :)
Dad....yes, the barn is still bigger! Maybe not for long, but for now!
